Dr Laherty has, or has had, Consultancy Agreements with the following companies:
Abbott/ St Jude Medical, Baxter Healthcare, DePuy Spine, Evolution, Globus, Medtronic, NuVasive, Orthofix, SpineArt, Ulrich, X Spine, Zimmer, Zimmer Biomet. These agreements cover paid employment either as a speaker, educator or design adviser in Australia, and internationally in Europe, Asia and North America. He has previously held interests in companies involved in surgical supply.
Regarding implants: All implants used have been through credentialing processes and are listed on the Australian Government Prostheses List. Each is considered clinically equivalent to its competitors. The costs for equivalent items (eg polyaxial screws) are the same regardless of manufacturer or supplier. The regulator considers them “Equal in quality and cost” If you have any concerns or particular desires about the selection of potential implants for your surgery, please raise them with Dr Laherty.
