Teaching

Dr Laherty has a passion for lifelong learning.  He engages in regular professional development, keeping abreast of new research, techniques and technology in Neurosurgery.

 

Dr Laherty is a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland’s School of Medicine and has been recognised for his excellence in surgical teaching by the University of Queensland Medical Society.

 

He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Academy of Surgical Educators, contributing to the training of surgical colleagues and trainees.  He is senior instructor and course director for the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient course, is a senior instructor for the Early Management of Severe Trauma course and is faculty on the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care course for RACS and the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care.  He has received a commendation from RACS for his educational efforts.

 

Dr Laherty also serves as a clinical examiner for RACS and is on the Examination Committee of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia.  He has been an anatomy demonstrator for Queensland University of Technology’s General Surgery Anatomy Course.
